Zusammenfassung:Context: Some materials that constitute subgrade soils show high deformability and low resistance, and these characteristics are associated with high levels of plasticity. However, there is an alternative to improve the behavior of this soils that is through stabilization with cementing material.Method: We prepared soil along with cementing material (lime and cement) mixtures with weight proportions of 2% to 6% for lime and 2% to 16% for cement. Subsequently we prepared specimens that were tested with curing times of 7, 14 and 28 days. We performed limits of plasticity, direct cut, unconfined compression, and CBR; and later we compared the results with the same tests performed on specimens obtained from natural soil. Results: The test results obtained for the soil in natural condition, compared to those obtained for soil-cement mixtures, show a reduction in the plasticity index between 20 and 24%; a significant increase in the CBR support capacity index between 500 and 1300%; an increase in friction angle up to 160%; and an increase in the unconfined compression resistance up to 1400%.Conclusion: According to what we experimentally observed, addition of cementing materials like lime and cement, in the case of the soil under analysis, results as an effective method to stabilize compressible clay soils, allowing them to reduce their plasticity and to improve their behavior to be used as supporting material. Additionally, it is evident that although the physical properties of resistance and deformation improve, the curing time of the mixture influences differently for the case of lime and cement.
