Zusammenfassung: | Introduction: Use of benzodiazepines has been increased in recent years. They represent
one of the most used worldwide psychotropic drugs, not just in psychiatry but also in the whole field of medicine. Although they are effective in the short-term, its use is not recommended long-term. Potential side effects include drowsiness, impaired memory, can cause falls and hip fracture, motor vehicle accidents.
Methodology: Transversal descriptive study. The study population consisted of 342 patients treated in the outpatient room Mario Mendoza Psychiatric Hospital. In this population was conducted a survey respectively. Statistical software was used EpiInfo version 7.1.1.14.TM.
Results: According to the sociodemographic variables, participants over 57 years hold most with 29.53% (101) followed by the range of 47-56 years with a 23.10% (79). Out of total patients 77.19% (264) are female. A 52.92% (181) belong to the urban area of the capital city Tegucigalpa. The remaining 47.07% (161) corresponds to a wide range of departments across the country. A 46.20% (158) hold a civil state party. Catholic religion in a 54.39% (186). The 28.65% (98) completed primary schooling the most widely used Benzodiazepine is Clonazepam in 89.1% (305) followed by Alprazolam with 7.89% (27). With extensions 1-5 years use of a 46.20% (158) followed by 6-10 years 26.32% lower percentage (90). Indicating the reasons reside mostly for sleep disorders (insomnia) with 56.73% (194). A 21.41% (73) had at the time of the survey DSM-IV Diagnostic Criteria for Dependency Benzodiazepines and of these 26.03% (19) patients age 57years. 100% of the interviewed patients received drug therapy with benzodiazepine.
Conclusion: The average duration of prescriptions violates all standards.
Introducción: El uso de benzodiacepinas ha incrementado en los últimos años. Representan uno de los psicotrópicos más utilizados a nivel mundial, no solo en psiquiatría sino también en todo el campo de la medicina. Aunque son efectivas a corto plazo su uso no se recomienda a largo plazo por los efectos secundarios potenciales que incluyen somnolencia, alteración de la memoria, pueden provocar caídas con fractura de cadera y accidentes vehiculares.
