Zusammenfassung:This article examines Renaissance ideals of feminine beauty and how these are portrayed in Portuguese literature, more specifically in the novel Menina e Moga by Bernardim Ribeiro. The article addresses not only the complex and often contradictory nature of feminine beauty, but also its integration and discussion in this novel. As the novel progresses, it exposes, questions and dismantles current concepts. Ultimately, the text reveals the fallacies of beauty and offers ugliness as the only refuge to women. Key words Bernardim Ribeiro, Portuguese Literature, Renaissance, Beauty, Ugliness, Women Este artigo examina ideais renascentistas de beleza feminina e como estes se encontram representados na literatura portuguesa, especificamente na novela Menina e Moga de Bernardim Ribeiro. O artigo aborda nao so a natureza complexa e, muitas vezes, contraditoria que define a beleza feminina, mas tambem como esta se integra e se discute na novela. A medida que a novela se amplia, expoem-se, questionam-se e desmantelam-se os conceitos vigentes. Por ultimo, o texto revela as falAcias da beleza feminina e oferece a fealdade como o unico subterfugio para a mulher.
