Zusammenfassung: | Objectives: Identify the relationship between knowledge about HIV and the willingness of Medical students, in different years of their career, at the time of performing medical procedures in persons living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV).
Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional study conducted in a private university in Lima. We included all students currently studying in the 2013-1 semester. A survey of 22 items was used to measure the variable of knowledge about HIV categorized into high and low knowledge and a survey of 4 items to measure the variable of Attitude, divided in disposed
and no disposed. In the data analysis, we used Poisson regression to calculate prevalence ratios.
Results: In total 617 students were surveyed between May-June 2013. The ages went from 16 to 33 years, 254 (41.2%) were male and 440 (71.3%) of preclinical years. 67.2% of students in clinic, showed high knowledge about HIV. The willingness to perform medical procedures to patients with HIV in the clinic group was 60.9%. The RP obtained for the high knowledge variable was 2,59 in the clinical group (95% CI: 2,14 to 3,12). In the case
of the willingness variable, the RP was 1,41 in that group (95% CI: 1,20 to 1,65). The relationship between the willingness and knowledge about HIV is observed with Poisson’s regression analysis (p |
