Zusammenfassung: | This research aimed to reconstruct the history and the reading practices that took place in an Amazonian town called Tangará da Serra in the state of Mato Grosso (Brazil), during the 70s. Several conceptions have been established about reading, the readers and their pedagogical practices as well. The subjects of this research are characterized by the teaching in Literacy classes as an attempt to reflect on "how they formed readers, their life histories based on reading practices, school, family, and community; what they read and how they acquired such material, how thy managed to form readers and how this acquired practice influenced the teaching practice to train future readers." Embark through narratives about themselves by reading stories means seeking to understand a cultural practice marked by the recognition a plurality of readers, the manners and the objects of the reading, their life stories and their work. The survey was conducted based on the life story of ten alphabetizing teachers. Thus, the memory, the oral history presents itself as the main source of this study, providing opportunities for moments of reflection on the experiences thereby, recognizing and valuing the experiences that were silenced, where a history is intertwined with others by being part of the same space and time, an educative memory that is recalled every moment by dates, times, difficulties, trying to assess the extent of the experiences that present themselves in constant motion from the social, political and cultural challenges. As for the goals, it was found that the reading practices of the alphabetizing teachers happened inside and outside the school. They started their teaching practice much before they were prepared to become teachers, most of them holding just a high school degree, from huge multigraded classrooms, often inaccessible to students and teachers, some of them in rural areas. Through their interaction with students, with colleagues, they planned and shared the few educational resources and material available, such as the chalk and the blackboard. To perform the teacher s role, they had to study hard, have discipline and commitment, face hard work without materials, the lack of books, learn from making mistakes and so on.
