Zusammenfassung: | Territorial male song sparrows from an eastern population were recorded in two long recording sessions, 4-18 days apart. At the end of the second recording session, each male was challenged with a 3-min playback of one of his own song types. The first song type sung by the subject after the start of playback that differed from the song type he was singing before playback was considered his answer song. We test (using logistic regression) whether matching of the playback song by the answer song was associated with three measures of prior sequence: 1) prior bout length - the length in number of songs of the last bout of the playback song type given by the subject prior to the start of playback; 2) interval length - the length of the interval in number of bouts since the subject last sang the playback song type, corrected for repertoire size; and 3) type frequency - the usage frequency of the playback song type, measured by the relative frequency of usage of that type by the subject in the first recording session. The data set includes: a) the sequences of song types (with bout lengths) produced by the 32 subjects in each of their two recording sessions together with the playback and answer songs given at the end of the second recording session; b) recording statistics on the dates of the two recording sessions and the numbers of songs recorded in each; and c) logistic regression data - the values of the dependent and independent variables entered into the logistic regression analyses. |
