Fawcett M.D. Frog neuromuscular junction, prepared by rapid freezing with liquid helium followed by freeze substition. The nerve terminal is wrapped by a myelinating Schwann cell, and is separated from the postsynaptic surface of the muscle by the synaptic cleft which contains an external lamina.
