Zusammenfassung: | It is expected that in the next five years, the penetration of 5G technologies in industry and, specifically, in manufacturing will be significant and continuously increasing, positively impacting industry revenues, GDP and the workforce in the sector. The 5G TIMBER project aims to address the challenge of adopting 5G technologies in small and medium size manufacturing industries focusing on the wood sector.
Within this field, the project will demonstrate key implementations of advanced approaches leveraging the specific characteristics of 5G technology to enhance and enable the exploitation of material models for wood, open standards for production data, secure exchange of data, data analytics at the edge, precise indoor localisation, Digital Twin models (DT) augmented reality (AR), industrial IoT.
To support the development of innovative and commercially exploitable approaches based on the described technologies, innovative use cases (UCs) are defined to support the activities of the 5G TIMBER project in the wood value chain. Three categories of UCs have been selected: i) data-driven sawmill and woodworking machine setup; ii) modular wood-house factory; iii) construction and renovation with wooden elements, valorisation of composite waste. Within these three categories, specific UCs have been further defined.
This deliverable provides a structured description of the UC categories and related use cases. This description also addresses general requirements for implementing the UCs and field trials, the actors involved and their central role, the benefits of 5G technologies, possible constraints, and risks.
Besides this, this deliverable also defines structured input and application framework for the solutions and approaches to be developed within the 5G TIMBER project and further addressed in WP2 and WP3.
The final version of this deliverable, due on September 30th 2022, has been updated on December 21st 2022, to take into consideration the technical and operative details related to UC1.1 driven by the interaction with Hekotek and the involved sawmill; and the current status of the availability of 5G technologies, hardware components and related capabilities, emerged in the continuous advancement in this area. |
