Zusammenfassung:This report examines the entrepreneurial landscape of persons with disabilities (PwD) in India, highlighting both the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. With over 26.8 million people with disabilities, India has a vast reservoir of untapped potential, but many PwD often encounter obstacles that hinder their ability to translate their ideas into successful ventures. Key challenges faced by PwD in becoming entrepreneurs include accessibility barriers, social stigma, attitudinal discrimination, a lack of access to funding, and limited support systems. Despite these challenges, recent years have witnessed a rising tide of support for disabled entrepreneurs in India. Government initiatives, such as the National Policy for Persons with Disabilities (2016), have aimed to create a more inclusive environment for entrepreneurship. Additionally, several non-governmental organizations and social enterprises are actively working to provide PwD with the tools and resources needed to succeed in business. Unlocking the entrepreneurial potential of PwD requires a concerted effort from various stakeholders. This includes strengthening policy and legislation, promoting accessibility, raising awareness, building support networks, and encouraging innovation. Successful PwD entrepreneurs can serve as role models and mentors to inspire others and showcase the potential of entrepreneurship for the PwD community. The potential benefits of entrepreneurship for PwD individuals include financial independence, increased self-esteem, control over their work environment, the ability to create solutions that address their community's needs, and contributing to a more inclusive society. By creating an enabling environment that addresses the challenges they face and provides necessary support, India can unlock the full potential of its PwD population and foster a truly inclusive society. This report highlights the immense potential for successful entrepreneurship development among PwD in India. By taking action to support and empower PwD entrepreneurs, India can unleash their potential and create a society where everyone can thrive and contribute their unique talents to build a more inclusive and prosperous future. The report also underscores the need for a multi-pronged approach to ensure PwD have the resources and support needed to thrive as entrepreneurs.
