Zusammenfassung:As part of the Hurricane Sandy Supplemental Project (GS2-2B), scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center (SPCMSC) and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) conducted a nearshore geophysical survey to characterize the stratigraphy of the shoreface and inner shelf near Fire Island, New York (NY) in June and July 2014. The purpose of this study was to collect nearshore bathymetry and sub-surface geology data to assess the impacts of Hurricane Sandy, which made U.S. landfall on October 29, 2012. Collecting geophysical data can help researchers to identify relationships between the geologic history of the island, its present-day morphology, and sediment distribution. A description of nearshore geology and sediment volume assessments are published in Locker and others (2017) and coastal bathymetry data are provided in Nelson and others (2016). This data release serves as an archive of sub-bottom profile and navigation data collected by the USACE on June 15–23 and July 10-12, 2014, offshore of Fire Island, NY during USGS Field Activity Number 2014-303-FA. Data products, including chirp sub-bottom profile data and images, survey trackline map, location data with formal Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) metadata, and field logs are provided.
