Coastal Carbon Network's Data Library Data Structure and Templates (version 1.0.0.)

These files summarize the data structure of version 1.0.0 of the Coastal Carbon Library. Coastal Carbon Network staff provide support for data producers of coastal wetland soil profile data in making their data publicly available using standardized data structures, defined vocabulary, and data entry templates. These structures and vocabularies can be added to or modified as needed. 1_ccn_v110_database_structure.csv: Provides a summary of the data structure. Each row is an attribute, or distinct data type, a column in a table. table: indicates which table the attribute occurs in attribute_name: the column name associated with the attribute attribute_definition: definition of the attribute required: Indicates whether the attribute is required, encouraged if applicable, optional in all cases, or conditionally required based on the presence or absence of another attribute. data_type: The type of data. Characters are character strings that can take on any values. Factors are character strings representing categorical variables that can take on a subset of values. Numeric, are numbers. Dates indicate date objects. format_unit_codes: Indicate the units for numeric data types, the definitions of variables for factors, and the formats for dates. number: Indicates the type of number format, integer or real number. data_category: Indicate which type of measurement an attribute is associated with. parent_data_category: Categorizes attributes by which overall type of analysis they are most readily useful. conditional_on: If an attribute is mandatory conditional on the presence of another attribute, this is the attribute that triggers the condition. conditional_variables: Conditional variables of the data type, and factor, need to be set to this variable to trigger the condition. conditional_on_absence: If an attribute is mandatory conditional on the absence of another attribute, this is the attribute that triggers the condition. 2_ccn_V100_study_metadata_template.docx: General study level meta-data submitters need to include.
