Black Narcissus uses financial graphsto visualise a fusion of financial turbulenceand ecological collapse resulting fromthe pursuit of economic growth beyondecological limits. The work critically engagestwo properties of the financial system thatdrive ecological destruction: the abstractquality of financial data that allowscalculation to dominate over judgment, whiledistancing decision makers from the harmfulconsequences of their decisions, and thefeedback loops in markets that amplify thechaotic oscillation between greed and fear.
