Zusammenfassung:Thiswork dealswith fractional-slot permanentmagnet synchronous machines (FSPMSMs) equipped withphasesmade up of one coil parallel branches. These exhibitattractive potentialities, especially their enhanced opencircuitfault tolerance capability. Furthermore, these topologiesare suitably-adapted for low-voltage power supply thatmakes them viable candidates for possible integration inthe 42V automotive technology. This potentiality is furtherhighlighted in battery electric vehicleswhere the passengersafety is greatly improved in case of accidents thanks tothe reduction of the DC bus voltage. Part 1 of the work isaimed at a star of slots-based identification and topologicalcharacterization of the FSPMSMs that make it possiblethe arrangement of the armature phases according to onecoil parallel branches. The study distinguishes the case ofodd and even number of phases, arranged in single- anddouble-layer slots. The paper is achieved by a case studyincorporating an experimental validation.
