Experiment 1, a self-paced sentence-by-sentence reading experiment, utilizing (i) Empathy locus antecedent vs. (ii) Non-empathy locus antecedent and (i) Repeated-name Subject anaphor, (ii) Repeated-name Topic anaphor, vs. (iii) Null pronoun anaphor, investigated whether it detects RNP (Repeated Name Penalty); Experiment 2, a self-paced sentence-by-sentence reading experiment, utilizing (i) Empathy locus antecedent vs. (ii) Non-empathy locus antecedent and (i) Overt-pronoun Subject anaphor, (ii) Overt-pronoun Topic anaphor, vs. (iii) Null pronoun anaphor, investigated whether it detects OPP (Overt Pronoun Penalty)
