For several years we monitor sky lights above Aragats research station, located at 3200m a.s.l in Armenia [1] with panoramic camera(s) making shots each second [2]. We register 14 episodes of the emergence of lights during thunderstorms and enhanced fluxes of electrons and gamma rays, so-called thunderstorm ground enhancements (TGEs [3,4]). The origin of these light spots, extending for several seconds are supposed to be the atmospheric discharges [5], intense fluxes of TGE electrons [6], ball lightning [7,8], and geomagnetic disturbances [9]. A more prosaic explanation is the corona discharges on the metallic structures plenty at the station environments. However, after installing 3 panoramic cameras at the station, the independent shot demonstrates that at least some of the registered light spots really appear in the skies, and not at metallic masts due to emerging strong near-surface electric fields.
We present a catalog of the light spots registered in 2018-2021 with detailed information on relevant measurements of particle fluxes, near-surface electric field (NSEF), lightning location, and many others. Links provided in the EXEL table allows not only to see hundreds of light spots and dynamics of their appearance but also give access to data from hundreds of measuring channels from advanced experimental facilities of Aragats research station. A detailed explanation of the dataset is available from the long description. |
