Zusammenfassung: | [ANGLÈS] Mass movements and, more specifically Debris Flows, are a major geological hazard due to
its magnitude and high frequency. They often occur in mountainous areas with steep
slopes and are frequently unnoticed by the population. In recent times, the mountain areas
have experienced significant urbanization, mainly for reasons related to tourism or leisure.
This increase in population and infrastructure is very important for the possible effects of
mass movements that may occur, because they can cause both personal and material
damage.
This thesis is related to the national research project (DEBRISTART), carried out by UPC
Barcelona, that aims to study the hazard of Debris Flows at the drainage basin, in Central
and Eastern Pyrenees.
The basin considered in this study is the Rebaixader ravine near the town of Senet (Vilaller
municipality, Alta Ribagorça), located in the Pyrenean axial zone. This basin is one of the
most active nationally in terms of Debris Flows.
The aim of the monitoring system installed is to determine when a Debris Flow takes place
and why it occurs, in order to create an Early Warning System (EWS).
This particular work has been multidisciplinary, combining field work with work in the soil
mechanics laboratory. The result of which has been an extensive knowledge of the source
area of the study basin, so far unexplored, which has been fully equipped. Furthermore, a
small-scale experiment was performed, including the numerical model SEEP, trying to
simulate field conditions.
