Firstly, this article briefly reviews the recent historic and theoretical contexts related to ageing and retirement. Secondly, it outlines some variants in terms of the possibilities of regulating temporary retirement and highlights proposals that involve overcoming full-time retirement. Finally, it discusses some of the possible individual and social consequences of the provisional implementation of this new form of regulating working and retirement times throughout adulthood by considering the individual’s and the family’s well-being, as well as the effects that this regulation may have on government spending.
