Ecos sàfics en la poesia nord-americana: Amy Lowell i la feminització del moviment imaginista

Amy Lowell (1874-1925) va publicar en totes les revistes més prestigioses de poesia del moment tant als Estats Units com a Europa. En els tretze anys que la seua mort li va permetre dedicar a la poesia Lowell va fer seua, per a horror de molts, l'absoluta convicció que el públic estava preparat per a entendre i disfrutar la nova poesia. La importància d'este convenciment és que Lowell, una de les responsables directes del gran flux de noves tendències present en la poesia nord-americana, va fer arribar al gran públic els innovadors preceptes de l'Imaginisme. Un dels seus majors èxits en este context, que és el que este article estudia i proposa, és que la poètica d'Amy Lowell i els seus estudis de crítica literària comporten la feminització de l'Imaginismo i la inclusió, en un món poètic on la poesia escrita per dones estava relegada al sentimentalisme i per tant minimitzada i menyspreada, la poesia de la dona amb veu pròpia en totes les seues facetes en les avantguardes del segle passat que en la poesia nord-americana són precursors directes de les avantguardes actuals. Com ha comentat Lillian Faderman, des de Safo i fins a 1970 no hi haurà moltes altres oportunitats de llegir obertament poemes tan summament irreverents amb els predicaments del patriarcat en relació amb la posició de la dona en la poesia. This conviction took her on many tours around the country delivering papers on the subject and participating in poetry readings that were authentic stand up performances that the public greatly appreciated. The importance of this is that Amy Lowell, being herself one of the most prominent propellers of avant-guard tendencies in the American poetic spectrum of the time, introduced the public to the precepts of Imagism and its possibilities of newness in the poetic discourse.
