Proustiansk panoptisme. Om løgn som modstand hos Proust

Synne Ytre Arne: “Proustian Panopticism: On Lying as Resistance in Proust” In La Prisonnière (1923), Marcel Proust’s female protagonist, Albertine Simonet, is depicted as being, by nature, mendacious. This notion, however, risks obscuring what motivates her mendacious attitude. In this article, I claim that the narrator’s attempts to control and surveil Albertine during their cohabitation in Paris can be described as panoptical, and I suggest that we consider her lies as a means of conscious revolt against this panoptical surveillance.
