Zusammenfassung:Nowadays, it is generally accepted that no foreign languageteaching programme can do without a cultural component.Nevertheless, what we understand by culture and the way it istreated in class and in the teaching material can vary greatly. Inthis article we explore the cultural component in the teaching ofSpanish as a foreign language in two quite dissimilar contexts,Argentina and Denmark. We focus on the most usedcoursebooks and compare them to the guidelines established bythe local institutional contexts. Two main points of discussionare the treatment of the intercultural ideal and the distributionof Iberic and Latin American elements.
