Zusammenfassung: Mariano Baquero Goyanes based his effort to overcome the conventionalism of literary studies on the philosophy of José Ortega. His aim was to move towards a literary aesthetic, leaving rhetoric behind. He took from Ortega his liberal attitude, alien to radicalism. Also, his priority of the novel. He had to struggle with the shortcomings of Ortega’s thought. To do so, he reformulated Ortega’s perspectivism, following his spirit of overcoming, which is expressed in the formula“jovial alcionism”.
