National Council of Teachers of Mathematics: President's Report: An Agenda for Action: Continuing Commitments and Mid-Course Corrections

Five years ago the NCTM released An Agenda for Action, whose recommendations were intended as a framework to guide our efforts to improve school mathematics in the 1980s. We are now midway through that decade. It is an appropriate time to take stock of our progress—to ask if we are succeeding in translating our Agenda into a program of Action . We should also ask if the conditions that surrounded school mathematics when the Agenda was drafted have changed in significant ways and, if so. whether we should now reexamine our priorities.
