NMR indicated GL-la to have a structure in which a glucose is linked via a glycosidic bond at the β-position to the ring of calditol, 2-hydroxymethy1-1- (2, 3-dihydroxypropoxy) -2, 3, 4, 5-cyclopentanetetraol, in calditoglycerocaldarchaeol (caldityl-glyceryl-dialkyl-tetraether core lipid).
