Zusammenfassung:The aim of this study is to analyse the history of researches on the conservation of historical areas used in daily life and work, and to analyse the movement and the recent trend of the researches, surveying Journal of Architecture, City Planning Review, and Journal of The Japanese Institute of Landscape Architecture from the first numbers. The results are as follows: 1) The researches on the conservation of historical areasstarted from 1980's, but the origins were found in the studies of traditional houses in the Taisho Era and of the conservation of historical areas inthe late 1960's. 2) The trend of the researches is found in following four aspects: 1) Increase of the researches in these 10 years. 2) Especially increase in rural areas except town center. 3) Increase of researches which involve living condition and occupation. 4) There are few researches which propose practical methods for the conservation of historical landscape, and also except researches for town center in recent five years there are few which verify thosemethods.
