Suppressive Effect of Extractive from Leaves of Morus alba with α-Glucosidase Inhibitors on Human Postprandial Blood Glucose Elevation Induced by Starchy Foods

Zusammenfassung: | In order to prevent lifestyle-related diseases, the suppression of early postprandial increments of blood glucose and insulin levels is important. We clarified the suppressive effect of starchy foods supplemented with an extractive from the leaves of Morus alba (hereafter referred to as ELM), which inhibits α-glucosidases, on postprandial blood glucose and insulin in 12 healthy subjects (mean age, 27.8±8.8 years; mean body mass index (BMI), 20.3±0.5 kg/m2), by using a within-subject, repeated measures design. When the subjects ingested 144 g of cooked rice and miso soup containing 2.5 or 5.0 g ELM, the elevations of blood glucose and insulin levels were significantly lower (p |
