A case of parotid gland metastatis from renal cell carcinoma long time after first time treatment

Renal cell carcinoma tends to metastasize hematogenously and may metastasize to the head and neck occasionally. We report on a rare case of parotid gland metastasis from renal cell carcinoma about 10 years after tumor nephrectomy. It is difficult to confirm a diagnosis of metastatic tumor of the parotid gland by image examination and aspiration biopsy cytology. Even if a long period of time has passed, metastatic disease should always be considered in the differential diagnosis for patients with a previous history of renal cell carcinoma who present with parotid gland swelling. We should consider the prognosis and QOL of the patients and treat according to each case.
