Zusammenfassung: | Anaesthesiologists are confronted with a serious challenge in patients with supraglottic cysts obstructing the airway passage. Conventionally, pre-operative tracheostomy has been used to treat upper airway obstruction caused by tumour in the supraglottic region. However, tracheostomy can potentially have an impact on long-term outcomes. We report a case of a 42-year-old male with an arytenoid cyst for microlaryngeal surgery. Here, the airway was secured using a flexible fibreoptic bronchoscope along with direct laryngoscopy to visualise the passage of the fibreoptic bronchoscope and endotracheal tube. Haemodynamics were stable throughout the procedure. This case exemplifies the potential of securing the airway passage without performing a pre-operative tracheostomy, resulting in a satisfactory outcome and a brief hospital stay. |
