Zusammenfassung: | The hub-and-spoke model in oncology is a strategic approach designed to decentralize cancer care in India. In this model, a central, highly specialized cancer center (the “hub”) is connected to smaller, regional hospitals (the “spokes”). The hub provides advanced diagnostic and treatment facilities, while the spokes handle more common and less complex cases. This model aims to improve accessibility and quality of cancer care across the country. By distributing services, it reduces the burden on central hospitals and ensures that patients in remote areas receive timely and effective treatment. For instance, Tata Memorial Center has been a pioneer in implementing this model, proposing the development of 30–40 hub centers across India, each serving a population of 5–7 crores. |
