Zusammenfassung: | Priapism is an uncommon but serious adverse effect of psychiatric medicines. Priapism is a urologic emergency defined by a prolonged, painful penile erection in the absence of sexual stimulation. It is seldom associated with the use of nonerectile dysfunction drugs. According to the findings, priapism can be caused by a variety of illnesses, including psychiatric medicines. One mechanism through which antipsychotics are thought to cause priapism is alpha 1-antagonism. This is distinctive and does not rely on long-term usage. The majority of the time, priapism resolves on its own or responds to conservative therapy. We discuss a rare instance of undiagnosed persistent priapism that required surgical intervention. |
