Zusammenfassung:Glycosylation has been shown to modulate various growth factor receptors. The N- and O-glycans of the receptor itself are important for its function and localization. Glycosphingolipids (GSLs) also have various functions as coordinators of multiple receptor functions. Recent studies have shown that GSLs regulate growth receptor functions via formation of membrane microdomains (lipid rafts) that are highly enriched in cholesterol and glycosphingolipids [Inokuchi et al. (2008) Trends in Glycosci Glycotech 20, 353-371] .
