Zusammenfassung: | Synchronous solitary splenic metastasis of colon cancer is extremely rare. We report a case of ascending colon cancer with synchronous solitary splenic metastasis. An 80-year-old man initially consulted us for ileus and an abdominal mass in the right upper quadrant, which were closely inspected and treated. Colonoscopy revealed a type 3 tumor in the ascending colon, which was diagnosed as a moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma based on a biopsy. Abdominal computed tomography revealed a low-density tumor in the spleen. Solitary splenic metastasis from ascending colon cancer was suspected. A right hemicolectomy associated with splenectomy was performed. The histological diagnosis of both the colon and splenic tumor was moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma. Histopathological diagnosis confirmed intrasplenic metastasis from the ascending colon carcinoma. Postoperative progress was favorable and no sign of recurrence has been observed to date, at 36 months after surgery. There are reports of good prognosis following resection of solitary splenic metastasis; therefore, we recommend radical surgery for patients having colorectal carcinoma with a solitary splenic metastasis. |
