Tuberculous Anal Ulcer

A 63-year-old man complained of severe anal pain, provoked by defecation. An anal ulcer was found by inspection and anal cancer was suspected. Histopathologic, examination of biopsied specimen taken from ulceration under spinal anesthesia revealed tuberculous nature of the lesion. After medical treatment with SM INH EB for 3 months, the ulcer healed without leaving stricture of the anus. Tuberculous ulcer of the anorectum is a rare condition and the correct diagnosis is often difficult. However, the history of tuberculosis and gross findings of the ulcer will give a clue to the correct diagnosis, comfirmed by a biopsy.
