Studies on the Toxicity of Chicle and Jeltong

As there are no reports on the toxicity of chicle and jeltong, the author investigated the toxicity that occur when chicle and jeltong are orally administered. The following results were obtained: 1. The minimum lethal dose of mice fed orally with chicle was not available because the tolerable dose was too great but it should be greater than 3, 600mg/kg. The minimum lethal dose of mice fed orally with jeltong should be greater than 4, 600mg/kg. 2. In the daily feeding tests with chicle and jeltong, no significant decrease in body weight was seen. 3. In the experimental group, pathologic changes were not remarkable.
