Toxicological Studies on Alkylbenzene Sulfonate

At the beginning of this year a group of scientist in Japan reported that alkylbenzene sulfonate (ABS), which has been widely used as principal ingredient of anionic detergent, might not be harmless to human health. In order to clarify this point following experimental studies were made on this chemical. 1) Acute toxicity in mice 2) Primary irritation test on the skin and mucous membrane of rabbits 3) Skin sensitizing test in quinea pigs 4) Chronic Toxicity in rats 5) Absorption, storage in organs and excretion in rats and rabbits, using ABS35
