A Study of Simultaneous 2-D Measurement for Transient Velocity and Temperature Using Two Color Lasers

This paper describes a modified technique to measure transient profiles of velocity and temperature. This technique simultaneously uses a Particle Tracking Velocimetry (PTV) and a real time Holographic Interferometry (HI) with two color lasers. We named this method as HI-PV. Zusammenfassung:This paper describes a modified technique to measure transient profiles of velocity and temperature. This technique simultaneously uses a Particle Tracking Velocimetry (PTV) and a real time Holographic Interferometry (HI) with two color lasers. We named this method as HI-PV. In HI-PV, the PTV (velocity) and the HI (temperature) images are superposed on each other. Then, these images are separated using two different methods. One directly records this superposed image, and separates it by a digital image processing. The other uses a half-mirror and color filters to provide individual images, and synchronously records these separated images with two independent cameras. In this paper, both methods were applied to the simple and the complex natural convection, and its validity was proven in comparison with the numerical calculations. Then, HI-PV tried measuring the fast and thin surface tension driven flow, and its ability in response and resolution was confirmed.
