On the development of Chinese Painting: death and breakthrough

This article traces and compares the three debates about Chinese painting, which changed the development landscape of the field in the last century. The article will also show that, only when Chinese painting is firmly rooted in the rules and theories of traditional Chinese artistic culture with unique trajectory of its development, can it truly have spiritual unity with the tradition, and maintain its own identity under the impact of foreign culture.
