Zusammenfassung:	The measures adopted in the benzene department of byproduct-capture shop 1 at PAO Avdeevskii Koksokhimicheskii Zavod (AKKhZ) are discussed. During the reconstruction of coke production at the plant, valuable operational experience has been gained with a compact cooling system for the coke-oven-gas and a modernized benzene scrubber. A simplified system is proposed for the distillation column.
