Zusammenfassung:The hitherto unidentified original source of the poem titled “Translation of a Latin Epigram on Casimire” by the eighteenth-century English author George Jeffreys is actually the final six verses of Sidronius Hosschius’s elegy on Casimir Sarbiewski. Unlike Sarbiewski, whose celebrity in early modern England was such that it sufficed to call him only by his first name, Hosschius was little known in the country. Identification of this so-called “epigram” as a fragment of his poem demonstrates, however, that his work was read and appreciated there.
