Ecological risks and benefits of transgenic plants

Reviews the debate over the environmental effects of the growing of transgenic crops. Assesses the possibility of damaging ecosystem services (biological control, pollination, decomposition and soil fertility maintenance) and effects on biodiversity. Lists also the potential benefits of the technology. Asserts that both potential risks and benefits need careful documentation and validation for an appropriate assessment of their total ecological effects.
