A case of chronic hepatitis associated with chronic thyroiditis

A HBs antigen positive case of chronic hepatitis associated with chronic thyroiditis wasdescribed. The patient was a 23-year-old single woman. The goiter was first pointed out at the age of eleven years. There was a goiter but the liver was not palpable on admission. Laboratory findings were as follows: S-GOT, 156; S-GPT, 186; ICG retention in 15 minutes, 16.5%; γ-globulin, 1.86 g/dl; RA test, (+). Thyroid function tests were within nomal lirnits. Anti-nuclear antibody, anti-smooth muscle antibody, thyroid test and microsome test were positive. Immunoglobulin levels showed IgG of 1660 mg/dl; IgA 225 mg/dl; and IgM 465 mg/dl. HBs antigen was persistently positive. Liver biopsy specimens indicated histol0gical findings of chronic hepatitis (active) and thyroid biopsy showed that of chronic thyroiditis.
