Misha and the Bear: The Bear Metaphor for Russia in Representations of the "Five-Day War"

The authors analyze the various uses made of the metaphor of the "Russian bear" in both Western and Russian political discourse. They conclude that the metaphor has played, on the whole, a harmful role and should be abandoned.
