Zusammenfassung: | Thirty years ago, Saskia Sassen challenged scholars to attend to the 'systemic links' between global economic restructuring and emergent patterns of gender inequality (Sassen 1984). In response to that challenge, scholarship on gender inequality in the global economy has flourished, advancing our knowledge of women and the global assembly line (Lee 1998; Ngai 2005), the growth of a feminized servant class (Hondagneau-Sotelo 2007), and the emergence of new patterns in gender relations around the globe (Hochschild and Ehrenreich 2004).
