Resumen La presencia de escultores, doradores y pintores levantinos en tierras conquenses y albacetenses durante el siglo XVIII está bien atestiguada tanto en la documentación como en las investigaciones realizadas sobre la retablística en dichas tierras en aquella centuria. Sin embargo, la presencia de artífices llegados de otras zonas es menos conocida. Este artículo está dedicado a estudiar la figura de Juan de Mata, maestro escultor aragonés, que trabajó en la diócesis de Cuenca y en el arzobispado toledano, de cuya trayectoria vital y profesional apenas teníamos noticia. Abstract The presence of Levantine sculptors, gilders and painters in Cuenca and Albacete during the eighteenth century is well attested not only in the documentation, but also in the research carried out on the altarpiece in these lands in that century. However, the presence of artificers from other areas is less well known. This article is dedicated to study the figure of Juan de Mata, an Aragonese, master sculptor, who worked in the diocese of Cuenca and in the archbishopric of Toledo, and we hardly knew about his life and professional career.
