Effects of Day-length on Capitulum Formation of Garland Chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum coronarium L.)

Effects of day-length on capitulum formation were investigated for garland chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum coronarium L.) cv. Hakata kairyou chuuba and cv. Otafuku. When cotyledons expanded, the seedlings were grown till flowering under 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 hr day-lengths in plastic house. 1. The longe...

Zusammenfassung:Effects of day-length on capitulum formation were investigated for garland chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum coronarium L.) cv. Hakata kairyou chuuba and cv. Otafuku. When cotyledons expanded, the seedlings were grown till flowering under 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 hr day-lengths in plastic house. 1. The longer the day-length, the earlier the budding occurred in both cultivars. The increases of budding plant number of cv. Otafuku under 8, 10 and 12 hr day-lengths were fairly delayed than that under 14 and 16 hr day-lengths. 2. As the day-length was lengthened, the number of nodes to capitulum decreased in both cultivars. The numbers of nodes under 14 and 16 hr day-lengths decreased significantly than that under the other day-lengths. 3. The longer the day-length, the more the stem length elongated significantly.
