Zusammenfassung: | Background. Synchronous thymic carcinoma and primary lung cancer is rare. Case. A 64-year-old man presented to our hospital because of abnormalities on a chest X-ray film taken at a medical check. After examination, lung carcinoma was suspected together with a benign mediastinal tumor. A right middle lobectomy, mediastinal lymph node dissection, and resection of the mediastinal tumor were performed via an anterior axillary thoracotomy. The postoperative pathological diagnosis was synchronous small cell lung cancer (T1bN0M0 stage IA) and thymic cancer (squamous cell carcinoma, T2N0M0 stage II). Four courses of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy (cisplatin (CDDP) + irinotecan (CPT-11)) were given. Conclusion. We report a resected case of synchronous small thymic cancer (squamous cell carcinoma) and small cell lung cancer, in which diagnosis was obtained by postoperative pathologic examination. |
