Treatment Results of Small Cell Lung Cancer

Nine patients with small cell lung cancer underwent surgical resection and 21 patients were treated conservatively. The clinical stage of the resected cases was I in 4 cases, II in 2 and IIIA in 3. The pathological stage was I in 3 cases, IIIA in 3and III B in 3. The stage of the unresected cases was IIIA in 13 and IIIB in 8. Median survival was 26±18 months in the resected group and 11±5 months in the unresected group. In the resected group, 4 cases (2 stage I, 1 of IIIA and 2 III B) survived over two years, but no unresected case did. This indicates that surgical treatment for stage IIIA and IIIB cases of small cell lung cancer can be considered under certain circumstances
