Zusammenfassung: | The summer habitat requirements of willow ptarmigan (Lagopus lagopus) were investigated on two study areas in Newfoundland. The Empetrum-Cladonia association was used most frequently as nesting cover. Broods in July and August were most frequently found in the Empetrum-Cladonia plant association where the cover was less than 8 inches tall. Summer brood ranges were not mutually exclusive. The distance between consecutive observations of broods was greatest in the study area having the least interspersion of plant associations. Pair densities may have been positively correlated with plant interspersion and abundance of Abies cover. |
