Appraisal of Ideas Advanced by Aldo Leopold Thirty Years Ago

In 1962, Charles Scribner's Sons reprinted Game Management by Aldo Leopold. It was first issued in 1932. The evidence of 30 years' use of this important pioneer work shows that certain ideas presented therein are still prominent in the wildlife profession. Accepted ideas include the definition and evolution of game managment, postulates on cycles of game species, degrees of failure or success in restocking game, laws of interspersion and dispersion of habitat features, the functions and purpose of the census, the refuge, predator control, and game management. Statements of Aldo Leopold are quoted to illustrate his philosophy of the new profession.
