Schistosomes from Wild Rats in Thailand
From 1,016 individuals of two genera and five species of wild rats in five localities in Thailand, two species of schistosomes were collected: Schistosoma sp. from Rattus rattus (Linn.), and S. incognitum Chandler, 1926, from Bandicota indica (Bechstein) and R. norvegicus (Berkenhout). The number of...

Zusammenfassung: | From 1,016 individuals of two genera and five species of wild rats in five localities in Thailand, two species of schistosomes were collected: Schistosoma sp. from Rattus rattus (Linn.), and S. incognitum Chandler, 1926, from Bandicota indica (Bechstein) and R. norvegicus (Berkenhout). The number of testes (less than ten) and the smooth cuticle of the unidentified schistosome suggest the possibility of S. japonicum Katsurada, 1904. S. incognitum is reported for the first time in Thailand and the two rat species represent two new hosts. Schistosome infection was not found in rats collected from two localities of southern Thailand where S. japonicum is endemic. |
