Zusammenfassung:An inexpensive direction-sensing activity wheel is described. When the wheel is turned in one direction, one channel of an event recorder is actuated; when the wheel is turned in the other direction, another channel is actuated. Although the actograph was designed for use with Eleodes spp., it is suitable for use with other large insects. E. grandicollis and E. gracilis maintain circadian activity patterns under constant conditions. In most cases locomotion is nondirectional with respect to 100 lux incandescent light.
